Local farmers thoughts...
" I had my 4 children grow up on the farm, the biggest and scariest thing you can ever imagine is letting them go out there to work on their own for the first time. when you let your children grow up around the farm you always worry about them making the wrong move, stepping in front of a piece of equipment, or hey even falling into the manure pit. But if you truly care and want you kids in the business then you will show them the ways to be safe around this stuff and get them to know more about it and then you can trust them to be safe. Farming isn't your everyday job. Farming is a job where the turnout is not in your hands. and I believe that that's why people are scared of farms, Because you never know what's gonna happen." "Many dairy farms have large pits to hold animal waste. these pits are HUGE they can be as long as 4 football fields or maybe even bigger. some of them have the capacity of over 100,000,000 gallons. many of the toxic chemicals found in the dairy cows waste are easily strong enough to kill you. it is very important to keep a fence or barrier around the pit to keep animals and people out of it.it's also keep a life preserver of some sort of flotation device around just in case of emergency"
